What's the difference between DT's Downloadable and Streaming Matches?
DT offers individual matches in two formats, and some of our customers have asked what the difference is and why do Streaming Matches cost less. The answer is similar to renting vs. owning a DVD or VHS Movie.
Streaming Matches are delivered to your computer as you are watching via RealPlayer. They are only viewable for 48 hours after ordering, and cannot be saved for later viewing. The only thing that is saved to your computer is a small "reference" file (ending in .ram) which RealPlayer uses to find the movie on our server. When your order expires, this .ram file will no longer work and can be discarded.
Because you are basically just renting the movie, and may want to purchase it as a download or on DVD later, we only charge $9.95 per match.
Downloadable Matches are self-contained Mpeg4 movie files that you download and save on your PC or disk, and they can be played over and over again using QuickTime Player. You must wait until the complete file downloads before viewing (usually less than 1 hour), but after you have saved it, it is yours to keep.
Since you are able to keep and view Downloadable Matches indefinitely, we charge $17.95 per match.
Some of our matches run 30 minutes or longer, and would be more difficult to download or stream in their entirety, so we recently began offering these in segments. These multi-part matches are available for the reduced price of $12.95/download or $6.95/streaming per segment.
